Legislation investigation presentation

Because we can't report on these bills in our other publications, here are some interesting bills that were introduced this legislative session.

Spring forward forever: Following the passage of Proposition 7 last year, AB 7 would codify year-round daylight savings time ... once it's approved by the federal government. (We are currently on daylight savings time now through November 3, 2019.)

Gimme an F: AB 63 would provide for an internet-based rating system for state government agencies, which would allow individuals to give a grade of A, B, C, D, or F regarding the agency's performance.

Paintbrushes up, pinkies out: AB 475 would require that the premises hosting a "paint and sip" class have a beer and wine license. Would this apply to the "paint and guzzle" classes?

B16 to window 10 RIGHT NOW: AB 1101 would mandate that no individual may wait in any line for more than 30 minutes at the DMV. Does this count the line that forms outside of the DMV before they even open? If not, see AB 63 above.

Vets and pets: SB 245 would prohibit an animal shelter from charging an adoption fee when a veteran adopts an animal.

For dogs with glaucoma: SB 627 would repeal the provisions that currently prohibit veterinarians from administering cannabis-based medicines to animal patients.

Tax season will be over tomorrow. We're thinking that if you have unanswered IRC §199A questions, you should extend the tax return and revisit the issue later. Our suggestion: If you haven't already, register for Spidell's Post-Tax Season Update and Review seminar, which will be held at various locations in May.
